  TKT EXAMINATIONS :
 
TKT teats Knowledge about the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, and concentrates on the knowledge needed by all English Language teachers.
 
It is an easily accessible teat which is prepared and delivered to international standards.
 
TKT helps teachers to find out about the main areas of teaching knowledge needed in the English.
 
In preparing for TKT, candidates have the opportunity to extend their knowledge of English language teaching and familarise themselves with concepts related to language, language use and the background to and practice of language teaching and learning. This knowledge is tested in a straightforward objective format test.
 
TKT focuses on:
             Different ways of teaching
             The ‘language of teaching’
             How resource can be used
             The key elements of lesson planning
             Class room management methods for different needs.
 
Who should take TKT?
TKT can be taken at any stage in teacher’s career.
 
It its suitable for teachers of  primary, secondary or adult learners all over the world. It is also ideal for people who would like to teach English but not yet started teaching.
 
To take TKT, teaches need a level of English at least equivalent to the Preliminary English Test or level B1 of the council of Europe’s Common European Framework of reference for languages. Candidates need not have any English language examinations, or to have fulfilled any other specific entry requirements although they are expected to be familiar with basic concepts and language relating to English teaching.
 
 Modules of TKT
TKT has five modules. These modules can all be taken together at the same time, or separately, in any order, over a period of time. For each module there is a test of 80 minutes.  Candidates must select the correct answer and mark this on a computerized answer sheet.
 
Module 1
Language and background to language learning and teaching
  • Describing language and language skills.
  • Background top language learning.
  • Background to language teaching.
 
Module 2
Planning  and background to language learning and teaching
  • Planning lessons and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons
  • Selection and use of resources and materials
 
Module 3
Managing the teaching and learning process
  • Teachers’ and learners’ language in the classroom
  • Classroom management
 
Module CLIL
Content and Language Integrated Learning
  • Knowledge of CLIL
  • Principles of CLIL
  • Planning , Teaching and Assessing
 
Ideally suited for content teachers who need to teach their subject in English, or who want to add language teaching to their portfolio of skills
 
Module KAL
Knowledge About Language
  • Lexis
  • Phonology
  • Grammar
  • Discourse
 
Is suitable for pre or in service teachers and for international candidates teaching across all sectors of education: Primary, secondary and tertiary.
 
Exam Preparation course before taking the test but they can also prepare themselves through their own reading and study, if they prefer.
