TKT : Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)

 

This a specialist module which aims to test the knowledge of concepts related to CLIL and the practice of planning, teaching and assessing curriculum subjects which are taught in English.

It is an examination for both content and language teachers, it tests knowledge of CLIL from a teaching perspective. It focuses on teachers awareness of students learning needs (content, language, communication, cognition) and support strategies for CLIL Teaching strategies involve informing, consolidating and support learning.

 

Why CLIL?
There are many advantages to the CLIL approach: it develops confident learners and enhances academic cognitive processes and communications skills.

 

There are two parts to the test:
Knowledge of CLIL and Principles of CLIL

  • aims of and rationale for CLIL
  • language across the curriculum
  • communication skills across the curriculum
  • cognitive skills across the curriculum
  • learning skills across the curriculum
 

Planning, Teaching and Assessing

  • planning a lesson and a series of lessons
  • language demands of subject content and accompanying tasks
  • resources, including multi-media and visual organisers
  • materials selection and adaptation
  • activity types
 

2B Lesson Delivery

  • classroom language
  • scaffolding content and language learning
  • methods to help students develop learning strategies
  • consolidating learning and differentiation
 

2C Assessment

  • focus: content; content and language; cognitive, learning and communication skills
  • types of assessment
  • support strategies
  This is a single test paper comprising 10 - 12 tasks .  The test takes 80 minutes for approximately 80 questions.
